Introduction

In 2015 I started working with colleagues around the world. I had the opportunity to collaborate with team members remotely, yet I still held a regular in-office job as a laboratory manager.

I’d built a solid, stable career, but after my oldest son was born in 2018, I decided I was ready to get into exclusively remote work so that I would have more flexibility as a mom.

Change comes with time, and all moms can attest to how much mom-hood changes your life. While I enjoyed my career, I was ready for a career change.

I appreciated my career and the experiences I gained along the way, but it was time for me to focus on the pivotal early years of my children’s lives, and I was ready for it. Knowing that remote work would provide the flexibility I desired, I started looking into opportunities that would help me achieve my goals.

I made my shift in 2019 and have worked remotely since. While the change wasn’t easy, it was well worth it.

Making the career change paid off for me, and now I’m excited to help others do the same. I fully believe that being satisfied in life – with your career, life balance, and in as many aspects of life as possible – will make the world a better place.

After all, when we’ve reached that satisfaction with life, we can stop focusing inward and start focusing more outward, and help others.

The Top 10 Best Stay-at-Home Mom Jobs

There are many great careers that are perfect for moms. I’ve curated this list carefully based on my conversations with others and my knowledge of these roles in the field. While this list is based on my judgment, I did consider factors such as flexibility, potential pay, and work-life balance.

So let’s get started. Here are 10 of the best stay-at-home mom jobs:

1. Virtual Assistant (VA)

Virtual assistants provide administrative, technical, or creative assistance to clients from remote locations. This type of remote work is a great option for moms because you can set your own hours and work from anywhere that has an internet connection.

As a virtual assistant, you’ll typically earn $25 to $50 per hour. There’s also growing demand for VA services.

2. Freelance Writer

Freelance writers write articles, blog posts, website content, and other types of content for clients. This field is a great option for creative moms that have a knack for writing.

Most freelance writers start their own businesses or work on a contract basis with clients, earning anywhere from $0.05 to $0.15 per word. There is a wide variety of writing jobs available in a range of industries and niches, so pick a specialty that best fits your skills and interests.

Web developers are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining websites. This is a great option for moms who are tech-savvy and have a passion for creating websites.

Web developers typically earn a good salary, and they have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. This type of work is in high demand, and it can easily be done from home.

4. Graphic Designer

Graphic designers create logos, websites, brochures, marketing materials, and other visual materials. This is a great option for moms who are creative and have a good eye for design.

With an increasing need for content, graphic designers are in high demand, and with a decent internet connection, this kind of remote work can be completed virtually anywhere. Graphic designers also command a good salary, especially those that have established a solid career.

5. Copywriter

Closely related to freelance writing, Copywriters write persuasive text for marketing materials, such as websites, brochures, and ads. If you enjoy writing and have skills in marketing, then this career can be a great option.

Many copywriters freelance, but more and more companies are hiring full-time copywriters as well.

6. Social Media Manager

Social media managers manage a company’s social media presence, including creating and scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to comments. If you like social media and you have at least a fundamental understanding of marketing, this may be a great career for you.

Perhaps not surprisingly, demand for social media managers is increasing, and many can command a reasonable salary.

7. Customer Service Representative

Customer service representatives provide support to customers by phone, email, or chat. This is a great option for patient moms who are good communicators and have a strong customer service ethic.

The barrier to entry is fairly low, and customer service representatives typically earn a decent salary. Additionally, a variety of companies hire for roles such as these.

If you’re a mom who enjoys connecting with people and can perform well under pressure, you may do well as a marketing specialist.

9. Data Entry Clerk

Data entry clerks enter data into computer systems. If you’re detail-oriented and have good typing skills, then you may want to get into one of these remote jobs.
