1. Am I truly passionate about it?

We spend a lot of time at work. According to a Gallup study, a staggering estimated 85% of people aren’t engaged in the workplace.

Do you want to risk turning a passion project into just another job? It’s an important question to ask yourself. While you may feel passionate about it now, will you truly feel the same after it turns into a career?

It’s also hard work to turn a passion project into a job, so if you’re not truly passionate about it, then it will likely be difficult to make a career out of it.

2. Do I have the knowledge and skills that I need to be successful?

It’s one thing to have a passion project, and it’s quite another to make it a career. Your family and friends might support your musings, but would someone pay for them?

If you feel that your knowledge and skills are lacking then you may need to take classes, read books, or get hands-on experience in your field of choice.

You may also want to consider evaluating your strengths to determine what you’re good at.

3. Do I have a business plan?

Depending on your passion project, you may not need a formal business plan, but you should at least plan on mapping out your goals.

You’ll also need some good strategies to develop your passion project into a successful business. How will you acquire customers? What will you sell?

You’ll need answers to these questions, among others if you expect to be successful.

4. How will I market my business?

How will you reach potential customers and clients? Who is looking for your solution? Where might your customers want to buy from you?

Even if you’re selling art, you will need some kind of market to make an income. As a freelancer, you might choose to work on a platform like Upwork. If you sell crafts, then you might choose to put your work up for sale on Etsy.

5. Am I prepared to work hard to be successful?

It’s hard work to turn a passion project into a career, but it is possible with a lot of effort, dedication, and good strategies. You’ll need to do your research to ensure you have all the tools, resources, knowledge and expertise you’ll need in your chosen field.

If you are willing to do the work, turning your passion project into a career can be a very rewarding experience. It can allow you to do what you love for a living and make a difference in the world.
