While we’re getting ready to kick off the holiday season with Thanksgiving, I thought it fitting to reflect on the many things I’m grateful for.
It’s been a while since I put together a gratitude list, though I’m working to get better at it. After all, there are so many blessings in life, and my mindset is better off when I remember that.
By cultivating a sense of gratitude, you can foster happiness, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the things that truly matter.
I’ve talked about how your mindset can empower or hinder you on your journey to financial freedom (or when you’re working toward just about any goal).
When you incorporate mindfulness practices like a gratitude list, you can help cultivate a “growth mindset.” A growth mindset can help you achieve your most ambitious goals, FIRE / financial freedom, or anything else.
In this article, I’ll share my gratitude list for 2024. Perhaps it will inspire you as you reflect on your journey to achieve your most ambitious goals – with FIRE, in your career, for your lifestyle, or otherwise.
Grateful for FIRE: My Top 10 Gratitude List
As we gather around tables filled with delicious food and the company of loved ones, it’s a time to reflect on the many things we are grateful for.
This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for the continued progress I’ve made toward financial independence (FIRE) and the positive changes it has brought. I’m also incredibly grateful for the broader FIRE community, which has been a frequent source of inspiration.
What else beyond FIRE am I grateful for? Here’s my list:
(ok, admittedly #9 is related to FIRE)
1. My Family
My family is my greatest source of joy and support. I’m grateful for my amazing partner in life, our two amazing boys, and the countless memories we’ve created (and have yet to create) together.
2. My Health
While I faced significant health challenges earlier this year, I’m grateful for the progress I’ve made and the overall improvement in my well-being. Health is a precious gift, and I’m thankful for every day I’m able to enjoy in (mostly) good health.
3. My Career
While few jobs are perfect, I’ve been fortunate with the roles I’ve held. I’m grateful for the stability and income I’ve had access to. My career has allowed me to advance my FIRE goals while providing a great sense of purpose and satisfaction.
4. My Friends
I’m grateful for the amazing friends who have supported me through good times and bad. Their love, encouragement, and friendship mean a lot to me.
5. My Sense of Curiosity
My curiosity drives me to explore new things and learn continuously. It’s a source of joy and keeps me engaged with the world.
6. My Ambition and Drive
I’m grateful for my ambition and drive for personal growth. These qualities have fueled my achievements and helped me overcome challenges.
7. The Opportunity for Personal Freedom and Growth
While the US is far from perfect, I’m grateful for the opportunities and freedoms my country affords. The ability to pursue my dreams and live life on my terms is a privilege.
8. My Mindset and Mental Health
I’m grateful for the work I’ve put into improving my mindset and mental health. The support I’ve received from friends, family, and professionals has been invaluable.
9. My Financial Circumstances
I’m grateful for the level of comfort and financial security I’ve achieved throughout my career and journey through life. It’s a privilege that I don’t take for granted.
10. What’s Yet to Come
Exciting adventures and opportunities lie ahead in 2025 (and beyond), and I’m so looking forward to them. From family trips and job growth to new experiences and business pursuits, I’m eager to see what the future holds.
